Activities
The Priory of Philadelphia hosts several events during the year. Our two formal events are the convent and investiture of new members in the spring and fall, followed by a banquet to celebrate our new Knights and Dames. The summer charity picnic is our most casual event every year, typically held at the home of one of our Knights or Dames. We also have a winter cocktail reception at a local private club. Besides social events, we will also host charitable fundraising lunches to raise funds to support the various Christian Missions in the Holy Lands. The Priory of Philadelphia has also supported local charities like the Ramsey Educational Development Institute, Children's Hospital, and the Allentown Food Bank.
Our Convent and Investitures take place twice a year in November and in May. Our Fall C&I takes place in the Allentown, PA area while our Spring C&I takes place in the Philadelphia area. Our C&I is a black tie formal ceremony which takes place in a local church where our "Postulants" are given the oath and are invested with a mantle and neck jewel. The ceremony is followed by a reception and dinner at a local restaurant.
The Knights Templar today are dedicated to making a positive impact in the world, and are actively seeking new members to join the fight. Prerequisites for membership are that you:
- are affiliated with any Christian denomination;
- are known in the community to be of good character;
- are accomplished in your professional and/or civic life; and
- are committed to the ideals of the order and to active participation in it.
